Alba Scotti und Michael Klaper: Die italienische Oper zwischen Rom und Paris: L’Orfeo (1647) von Francesco Buti und Luigi Rossi*

The historical significance of the opera L‘Orfeo (Buti/Rossi), first performed on 2 March 1647 in Paris, lies in its dual distinction as both the first full-fledged opera given before a large French audience and the first opera specifically conceived for the Parisian court. Though the opera is cast after its Roman-Venetian model, the ramifications of the French context are notably apparent, especially in a revised version of the piece, discussed here for the first time. This revision illustrates the attempt to accommodate an Italian tragicomedia per musica to a French tragicomédie.
