Das
Prosodion des Eumelos. Literarische Propaganda und politische
IdentitŠtsstiftung im 4. Jh. v. Chr.
The "Prosodion of the
Messenians", dedicated to the Delian Apollo, is believed to have been
composed by the poet Eumelos of Corinth in the 8th or 7th century BC.
Considering the political situation of Messenia, Corinth and the Delian
amphiktiony in archaic times, it is far more likely, that this prosodion was
written and presented in the 4th century BC soon after the foundation of the
new Messenian state. Together with the «creation` of Messenian history it
served as an act of political propaganda as well as a media of creating
Messenian political identity.
