Guzel Ibneyeva Catherine Discovers the Volga Region

Traveling along the Volga led Catherine to realize that Old Believers, Orthodox and Muslims lived alongside one another and had to be officially recognized if they were to live with each other peaceably. Old Believers were not to be terrorized or persecuted. Accordingly, Catherine reversed the persecution victimization and forced conversions practiced under Anna and Elizabeth.
