The Urban Element und the Communal Self-Administration on the
General Provincial Fair in
Poznań, 16 May – 30 September 1929.
This article discusses debates concerning the presentation of
communal administrations during
the Pol¬ish Universal Exhibition in Poznań (1929). It focuses on the political context of the
Second Polish Republic and its influence on this presentation: the
Polish state administration
and the Union of Polish Cities, representing Polish communal
self-governments, are seen as
opponents. The former stood for etatism and interventionism, the
latter advocated communal
autonomy. Rivalries between Polish big cities and little towns and
the competition between
various Polish regions are also discussed.
