Nora GŠdeke (Hannover): LÕaffaire de Monsieur Kortholt oder: Leibniz
undercover – Eine Miszelle aus der Praxis der Leibnizedition
Since 1703 Leibniz has made intensive efforts to
promote the sericulture in Brandenburg-Prussia and in the electorate of Saxony.
For both territories he expected corresponding privileges of the king or
elector, respectively, for both he designed plans regarding a long-termed
economical benefit. As both enterprises stood in direct concurrence to each
other Leibniz hat to conceal his activities in his correspondence and used
therefore the name of one of his correspondents as an alias. This usage of names of correspondents as cover names
already known from other instances in LeibnizÕs correspondence can lead to a
Ôpredetermined breaking pointÕ within the historical-critical edition of
LeibnizÕs writings.
