Otto: Leibniz’ Codex juris gentium diplomaticus im Urteil der
Zeitgenossen – eine Bestandsaufnahme
Leibniz’s famous Codex
juris gentium diplomaticus, a
collection of documents, most of them unknown at the time, met with
considerable approval from his scholarly peers. At the same time, critical
statements also arose. It is hard to tell, whether these are based on serious
arguments or merely are owed to the desire of being seen arguing with a
well-known luminary. In this paper, the range of reactions to the Codex as well as to its Praefatio is examined.
