Boris Gehlen: Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe: Paul Silverberg, der RDI und die Bank fŸr deutsche Industrieobligationen 1929 bis 1933. Ein Beitrag zur Wirksamkeit persšnlicher Vernetzung

Paul Silverberg was one of the most influential industrial entrepreneurs of the Weimar Republic. To a certain extent, his economic and political power was based on his widespread personal networks, which enabled him to form successful coalitions to actualise his ideas.

It is discussed how these networks influenced the decision making during the reorganisation of the ÒBank fŸr deutsche IndustrieobligationenÓ. In 1929 Silverberg promoted his plan to redefine the statue of the company. He wanted to create a special loan bank to help overcome the structural economic crisis, especially in East German agriculture. To achieve his aim it was necessary to coordinate the diverging interests of the actors involved in the decision making process – the Reich, Prussia and the associations of both industry and agriculture – without making substantial concessions.
