Angelika Westermann: Von der
Montanregion zur Sozialregion. Zur gesellschaftsgeschichtlichen Deminsion von ãRegionÒ
in der Montanwirtschaft der FrŸhen Neuzeit
The conception Òmining regionÓ underlines the dominance of
mining activities in an area. Within the last years new research on the lower
and upper Harz and the Vosges in Early Modern Time have highlightend mutual
influences and reciprocal impacts in politics, economy, law, culture, religion
and society as well as a process of aggregation of structures and conflicts.
Different economic interests of mining and agrarian communities effected a new
specific area, the social region. As the economic impact normally changes
social impacts and outlast an economic period, analysing and understanding an
economic region as a social region in respect to the historical character we
may find concepts of managing economic and social problems of today.
