Alfred Lameli: Relationen im Sprachkontakt: Das Beispiel der
norddeutschen Mehrsprachigkeit
The framework for
this explorative study is provided by the multilingual situation in northern
Germany, comprising Low German, North Frisian and Danish varieties. Drawing on
language data from the late nineteenth century, the paper searches for
quantitative indicators of typological distinctiveness. To this end, a measure
of linguistic density based on an analysis of the frequency of exclusive
variants within the particular repertoires is applied to the test case of North
Frisian. Aside from this typological perspective, the study also examines the
extent to which the density values obtained can be associated with language change
in the region under discussion.
