The
target words were elicited as part of a wider study into dialect divergence in
the Vreden – Winterswijk
border region (Smits 2007, in print). The test subjects were given a series of
translation assignments, designed to study various linguistic phenomena. The
stimuli for the study into schwa apocope were prompted
by the translation task shown as Table i.
