Geographische Zeitschrift
The most important pages in the authors’ area
In our area for authors you will find all the general information you need about structuring your article, formatting your text, working with images and tables and so on. Here we have linked the most important pages for you:
On this page
On this page, we have also collected specific information about your journal – e.g. language variants in the article header, the citation guidelines and the required personal details.
Contribution header
- In addition to the original title, provide an english translation of the main heading and the subheading (unless they are already in English).
- An abstract and keywords in English as well as in the original language are obligatory for the Geographische Zeitschrift.
- At least one thematic and one regional keyword from the GEODOK Thesaurus.
Abbreviated references in the text
- References are placed directly in the text body in brackets. The source is given in brackets after the statement that is to be referenced. The abbreviated reference follows the author-year principle.
Here is a statement which needs to be referenced (Louis 1956, 27)
(Miller 1995, 7) or … as Miller (1995, 16ff.) has shown
In the case of two: (Miller/Meyer 1995, 36ff.)
In the case of more than two: (Miller et al. 1995, 72)
- Several abbreviated references of different works are separated by semicolons:
(Schmid 2012, 27; Miller/Schulze 2011, 85ff.; Miller et al. 1995, 72)
- If there are several publications by one person from the same year, they are differentiated by a lowercase letter after the year:
(Schmid 2012a, 13; Schmid 2012b, 45)
Detailed references in the bibliography
- The detailed bibliographic information is provided in a bibliography at the end of each contribution. The heading for the bibliography is “References”.
- The bibliography should not exceed two printed pages. It should contain only titles which are cited in the text and which have already been published or are in press.
- First names are abbreviated to initials.
- Alphabetize the bibliography by the author’s last name. If more than one article by the same author is cited, repeat the author’s name and arrange the articles in increasing order by the year of publication.
- If a particular author appears both with single-author articles and in joint publications with other authors, the single-author publications are listed first.
- Two people are connected by ”and”; if there are more than two, the first person’s name plus “et al.” is sufficient:
in the case of two: MIller, M. und Becker, B.
in the case of more than two: MIller, M. et al.
- In the case of more than one places of publication, only the first-named place is given.
