Deutsch als Fremd- und Zweitsprache

The series Deutsch als Fremd- und Zweitsprache (“German as a Foreign and Second Language”) addresses key issues in the field from both theoretical and practical perspectives, including domestic and international language policy. It is aimed at an academic audience as well as at students and teachers in German-speaking countries and worldwide. In addition to scholarly analysis of current topics, it also provides guidance on foreign language policy issues.

The series is published by the Herder Institute at the University of Leipzig, which has played a key role in shaping the discipline. It covers all areas: the linguistics of German as a foreign language, including phonetics and phonology; the didactics of German as a foreign and second language, including the teaching of literature and cultural studies; as well as cultural studies and German literary studies from a foreign perspective.

Publishing information

Please send manuscript submissions to our acquisition managers or to the editors of the series. Submissions must be original texts (no translations) which must not be previously published. During the review process, manuscripts may not be submitted elsewhere. Monographs must be complete and fully finished. For multi-authored volumes contact us as early as possible with details of the planned contributions. In initial submissions, our publication guidelines or citation rules do not have to be strictly followed.

All submissions are subjected to peer review. The review process can result in acceptance, the recommendation of revisions or rejection of the project. You will be informed of the decision by email. We attempt to reach a decision within 3 months of the submission of the manuscript.
