Alex Michael Elliott


About

Alex Michael Elliott completed his PhD in Classics and Ancient History at the University of St. Andrews in 2024. His research is primarily dedicated to the Roman military, particularly its often overlooked naval elements, as well as associated themes such as Roman imperialism, conflict, and territorial transformation. 

Beyond his doctoral work, over the past decade he has worked on various archaeological projects in the Altentejo region of Portugal. Since 2019, he has acted as the co-director of the Castelo de Cuncos Archaeological Project, dedicated to the excavation and study of an Iron Age / Roman Republican fortified settlement. He also has experience in the museum sector, acting as the Collections Coordinator of the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne, Australia, from 2017–2019.
