Megacities and Global Change

Due to their growing number, enormous size, and their often extremely rapid development, megacities are becoming increasingly important as centers of global change. They are now achieving heretofore unknown levels of growth in both geographical area and population, and have become spaces that highly concentrate population, infrastructure, economic power, capital, and decision-making. The most diverse ecological, economic, social, and political processes are simultaneously present and overlap within them also to a new extent.

The Megacities and Global Change series examines mega-urbanization in different regions around the world. Utilizing perspectives from geography, spatial planning, environmental studies, sociology and political science, it fosters a new understanding of the dynamics of development. The quality of the work appearing in the series is checked by two independent experts.
