Abbreviated references in the footnotes
- Sources and references in the footnotes are given in abbreviated form. Detailed source references and bibliographic information is provided in a bibliography.
- An abbreviated reference follows the author-year principle:
MILLER 1994, p. 99.
- Two authors are joined with „&“; with more than two authors, the name of the first person is followed by „et al.“:
in the case of two: MILLER & MEIER 1994, p. 2.
in the case of more than two: MILLER et al. 1994, p. 11.
- Two consecutive pages are cited with an f., more than two pages with a from-to reference:
ALBERT 2003, p. 202 f.
ALBERT 2003, p. 276–288.
- If there are several publications by one person from the same year, they are differentiated by a short title:
VAN NUFFELEN, Sozomenos 2004, p. 86.
VAN NUFFELEN, Héritage 2004, p. 18–45.
- Several cited passages within one work are separated by comma:
ALBERT 1984, p. 98, 123 f., 198, 202, 212.
- A consecutively repeated reference is abbreviated with “ibid.“ or “ibid., page number“:
FRITZ 1997, p. 22.
cf. ibid.
ibid., p. 61.
- Several abbreviated references of different works one after the other are separated by semicolons:
FRITZ 1998, p. 22; MILLER 2000, p. 151–170; ALBERT 1984, p. 202 f.; MEIER 2010, p. 11, 14 f., 18–20.
- If a note is being referenced, an “n” plus the note number is inserted in brackets. The same applies to figures:
FRITZ 1998, p. 4 f. (n. 8).
ALBERT 1984, p. 72 (Fig. 4).
