Communication in vocational and advanced training – Research and Practice") focuses on the role and function of, as well as the requirements for, communicative skills in the job-training domain. The journal's international team of editors and advisory board members, representing various disciplines (language didactics, applied linguistics, vocational studies, economic education and others), underscores the specifically transnational and transdisciplinary character of the issue at stake. The editors and board members take for granted the increased significance of research that probes the interface of language/communication and job (training) contexts as well as that of communicative competences and acting skills and abilities. Competences of this kind – and the study of them – essentially answer to the challenges of vocational training and language learning in modern societies in general, and to current issues of labour migration and the concomitant increase of people seeking professional and social integration through, with and in a (second) language in particular.

The journal addresses both academics and professionals concerned with workplace literacy: language didacticists, applied linguists, expert form vocational and economic education studies, practitioners engaged in (advanced) vocational training, or human resource developers. The audience targeted by SpriB thus explicitly includes stakeholders such as vocational training schools, chambers of industry and commerce, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, decision makers from large-scale enterprises responsible for (advanced) vocational training and HR, and adult education institutions.

Answering to the language and communication requirements of an increasingly globalized labour market, the journal's scope is not limited to one particular language, e.g. German, as a First, Second and Foreign Language. SpriB explicitly invites contributions on any language and their speakers, and their respective challenges for vocational and workplace literacy. Publications can be submitted in German, English, or French.
