Zibaldone

Founded in 1986, Zibaldone serves as a forum for critical engagement with all facets of contemporary Italian culture. The main section of each issue is devoted to a specific thematic focus. In addition, the “Nutbush” (notebook) section features short essays on current topics (exhibitions, anniversaries, theater performances, etc.), while a review section highlights recent books from and about Italy.

The journal is aimed at a broad audience of Italy enthusiasts, with articles situated at the intersection of academic research and cultural journalism. It serves as a bridge between contemporary Italian culture – including that beyond Italy’s borders – and the German-speaking world. In recognition of its achievements, Zibaldone has been awarded the Premio Montecchio di Studi Italo-Tedeschi and the Premio Nazionale per la Traduzione.

During the review process, manuscripts may not be submitted elsewhere. A manuscript submitted to the journal must be ready for publication, the editors do not accept partial or draft versions. In initial submissions, the citation rules of the journal do not have to be strictly followed. Contributions may be proposed for the main thematic section (18,000 characters including spaces) as well as for the ‘Notebook’ section (up to 10,000 characters including spaces). Reviews must not exceed 5,000 characters including spaces. Please anonymise your contribution and ensure that acknowledgements and references in the footnotes do not allow any conclusions to be drawn about your identity.

All submissions are subjected to peer review. The review process can result in acceptance, the recommendation of revisions or rejection of the manuscript. The author is informed of the decision by email. The editors attempt to reach a decision within 3 months of the submission of the manuscript.

If a manuscript is accepted, the editors request a file with the final version. The final version includes names and acknowledgments. Also, please follow the guidelines of publisher and editors provided below.
