Abbreviated references in the text
- Please use small capitals for the words that appear in CAPITAL LETTERS in these guidelines.
- References are placed directly in the text body in brackets. The source is given in brackets in SMALL CAPITALS after the statement that is to be referenced. The abbreviated reference follows the author-year principle:
Here is a statement which needs to be referenced (LOUIS 1956, 27)
- Two authors are joined with “&”; with more than two authors, the name of the first person is followed by “et al.”:
In the case of two: (MILLER & SCHMIDT 2016, 34)
In the case of more than two: (MILLER et al. 2012, 17 f.)
- Several abbreviated references of different works one after the other are separated by semicolons:
Here is a statement which needs to be referenced (LOUIS 1956, 27; LEHMANN1954, 134 ff.)
- If there are several publications by one person from the same year, they are differentiated by a lowercase letter after the year:
(LOUIS 1956a, 27; LOUIS 1956b, 225 ff.)
- Here, lowercase letters are allotted according to the alphabetical order of the titles of works from the same year.
Detailed references in the bibliography
- The detailed bibliographic information is provided in a bibliography at the end of each contribution.
- The names of researchers should be in SMALL CAPITALS.
- First names are abbreviated to initials.
- If the author has two or more initials, there is no space between them:
DYNES, R.R.
QUARANTELLI, E.L.
- In the bibliography, “et al.” is not used when there is more than one author. Instead, all names are given. From the second author on, the initial letter of the first name comes before the surname:
SCHULZ, B. & M. BLOGGS & W. WACKER
- The abbreviation of organisations is capitalised but their explanation is in normal type:
DKKV (Deutsches Komitee fuer Katastrophenvorsorge e. V.)
- If there are two places of publication, they are separated by a slash; with more than two, “[et al.]” is used:
Stuttgart/Weimar
Cologne [et al.]
- In English and French main headings and subheadings all nouns, adjectives and verbs are capitalised, but not articles, pronouns etc.
