General notes
- Please use small capitals for the words that appear in CAPITAL LETTERS in these guidelines.
Text body
- Scientific transliteration applies to German and French manuscripts.
- For longer quotations, especially from older sources, Cyrillic letters may be used in UNICODE format, but not for bibliographical references.
- The contribution is followed by an alphabetical list of abbreviations used and their full forms.
Particularities of reviews
- Indicate the place of publication of the reviewed work in the respective language of the publication.

- Please translate titles in Russian and less common languages in square brackets.
Title translation, abstract and keywords
- In addition to the original title, provide an english translation of the main title in bold and in a new line (unless they are already in English). If there is a subtitle, it is also translated into English.
- Contributions in the Jahrbuecher fuer Geschichte Osteuropas include an abstract and keywords in English. There are no abstracts or keywords in the original language.
Abbreviated references in the footnotes
- Sources and references are given in the footnotes in abbreviated form, and the detailed bibliographic information is provided in a bibliography at the end of each contribution.
- Authors of research literature are set in SMALL CAPITALS.
- The abbreviated reference contains the short title and no publication date:
