Zeitschrift fuer franzoesische Sprache und Literatur

The most important pages in the author’s section

In our section for authors you will find all the general information you need about structuring your article, formatting your text, working with images and tables and so on. Here we have linked the most important pages for you:
  • Contribution structure
  • Text body
  • Figures and images
  • Tables

On this page

On this page, we have also collected specific information about your journal – e.g. language variants in the article header, the citation guidelines and the required personal details:
  • Title translation, abstract and keywords
  • Foreign vocabulary
  • Self-translated terms
  • Abbreviated references
  • Detailed references in the bibliography

Title translation, abstract and keywords

  • In addition to the original title, provide an english translation of the main title in bold and in a new line (unless they are already in English). If there is a subtitle, it is also translated into English.
  • In the Zeitschrift fuer franzoesische Sprache und Literatur, instead of an abstract and keywords in the original language, a French résumé and mots-clés are mandatory. For German and English contributions, these must also be translated into English. For French contributions, a German abstract and keywords as well as an English abstract and keywords must be provided.

Foreign vocabulary

  • Foreign vocabulary should be always be italicised. Exceptions to this rule are proper names or established terms – unless the term is supposed to be emphasised in this context – as well as Latin (specialist) terms, that can be found in the Duden dictionary; please set these terms recte:
die Fronde; Confrérie de la Passion; Théâtre du Marais
grosso modo; pars pro toto; ad absurdum; de facto; qua etc.

Self-translated terms

  • Please place quotation marks around quotes that are translated by yourself.
  • Self-translated quotes are followed by the note “translation N. N. [N. N. = author’s initials]”.

Abbreviated references

  • Sources and references are given in the footnotes or in brackets in abbreviated form, and the detailed bibliographic information is provided in a bibliography at the end of each contribution.
  • Two consecutive pages are cited with f. More than two pages are cited with a from-to specification.:
p. 202 f.
pp. 276–288
not: pp. 276ff.

Literary contributions

  • In literary articles, the short reference is placed in footnotes. They follow the author-year-principle:
Hempfer 1972, p. 18.
  • A drieclty repeated reference is abbreviated by “ibid.” or “ibid., page number”:
Hempfer 2014, p. 22.
Cf. ibid.
Ibid., p. 61.

Linguistic contributions

  • In linguistic articles, the short reference is placed directly in the running text in brackets. They follow the author-year-principle:
… Text that needs a reference (Hempfer 1972, S. 18)
… as Hempfer says (1972, S. 18)
with indirect quotations: … (vgl. Hempfer 1972, S. 18)
  • A directly repeated reference is not abbreviated, it follows the author-year-principle, as well.

Detailed references in the bibliography

  • Please state the full first and last names of all persons. The places of publication must also be included.
  • Please note that English titles are generally capitalised. However, in linguistic articles, English essay titles are written in lower case.
  • If several publications by the same person were published in the same year, they are distinguished from each other by lower case letters at the end of the year. The order corresponds to the alphabetical order of the titles:
Mueller, Martin (1999a): Example title. Stuttgart: Franz Steiner Verlag.
Mueller, Martin (1999b): Random title. Stuttgart: Franz Steiner Verlag.
