Karsten Johanning

About

Originally trained as a classical guitarist, Karsten Johanning started studying history at the University of Copenhagen at a mature age. He specialized in the cultural history of the Roman Empire, and his book is the revised version of his Ph.D. thesis from 2018. In 2009 he was a visiting student at the University of St Andrews, and in 2016 at the Institute of Classical Studies in London.

Karsten Johanning teaches history, ancient culture, and Latin at Birkerød Gymnasium (high school), north of Copenhagen.

He is currently working on a history textbook that, by broadening the use of central terms and approaches from his book, seeks to give students new perspectives on the imperial tendencies of our own times.
