Eivind Heldaas Seland is professor of Ancient history and premodern Global history at the University of Bergen, Norway. His research addresses the interaction of economy, environment, political power and ideology/religion in the preislamic Eastern Mediterranean, Near East, and Red Sea/Indian Ocean regions.
