Umberto Roberto is full Professor of Roman History at Università degli Studi di Napoli, ‘Federico II’ (Dipartimento di studi umanistici). After receiving a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung (2002-2003), he was a researcher at the University of Jena (DFG Projekt "Iulius Africanus", 2003-2006) and at University of Rome La Sapienza (2006-2008); then he was Associate and Full Professor of Roman History at the Università Europea di Roma (2008-2020).
Since March 2024 Umberto Roberto is also Director of the Istituto italiano per la Storia Antica in Rome.
