Jakub Przybył is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Applied Linguistics, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and a member of the Cognitive and Affective Approaches to Language Laboratory (CoALab). He serves on the Scientific Board of XLinguae, the board of the international research network Situating Strategy in Use (SSU), and on the editorial team of Glottodidactica: An International Journal of Applied Linguistics.
His research explores the psychological dimensions of language learning and use within applied linguistics, with a particular focus on individual differences and the foreign language effect. His work includes studies on self-regulation, personality, and emotions in foreign language learning, as well as the impact of language on information processing. He has published on self-regulated language learning, the role of personality in foreign language learning, and language learners’ attitudes and emotions. More recently, he has examined how metacognitive interventions can support self‑actualisation. His collaboration with Prof. Aleksandra Pilarska also extends to research on how thinking in a foreign language affects self‑perception and identity.
Jakub Przybył has presented at leading international conferences, including EUROSLA, PLL, and ICFSLA, and has published in journals such as Psychology of Language and Communication, Language Teaching Research, International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, and XLinguae.
