About
Attila Simon is Professor at the Department of Comparative Literature and Culture at the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, where he teaches literary theory and ancient literature. He held the position of guest professor at Freie Universität Berlin (2015), and also gave lectures at Humboldt Universität, Berlin (2015, 2024) and at University of Georgia, Athens (2024). He was guest researcher in Vienna and Berlin.
Attila Simon earned his Ph.D. with a thesis on Aristotle’s aesthetics. His primary research interests are ancient Greek drama and theatre, as well as ancient and contemporary literary theory with a focus on questions of culture and media. Professor Simon is the author of four monographs in Hungarian and translator of Plato’s Phaedrus, Cicero’s The Laws and Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics. In addition, he published several articles in refereed journals and edited volumes as well as translations of philosophical essays (from English and German into Hungarian).
