About

Camilla Norman completed a Bachelor of Arts (honours) and Doctor of Philosophy (archaeology) from the University of Sydney, and a Masters of Cultural Materials Conservation at the University of Melbourne.

Research focus

Norman specializes in the archaeology of pre-Roman Italy, with a focus on the indigenous populations of Apulia and Basilicata. Her research focuses on how display and storytelling are used to negotiate and reinforce notions of community, belonging and status, while also being reflective of cultural interplay and the mobility of people and things. Her work on the Daunian stelae has led her to explore topics including proto-historic gender constructs, ritual ecology, and the ontology of costume and body modification.
