Kurztext
The 66 essays, written either by leading specialists or younger scholars, explore different subjects on Greek and Roman literature and culture. The editors invited authors of two successive generations from different countries to present their papers especially in honour of Professor J.-Th. A. Papademetriou, Professor Emeritus of the University of Athens, who has been a successful and inspiring teacher in several Universities of U.S.A., Europe and Greece. The book offers various perspectives of Greek civilization, on subjects concerning classical literature (that is Homer, Hesiod, lyric poetry, drama, historiography, rhetoric, philosophy, Hellenistic and later Greek literature and criticism, Latin authors), Byzantine literature, papyrology, Modern Greek literature, comparative literature and linguistics. Most of the essays are written in English, but there are also essays in German, Modern Greek and French.
